Early signs for Developmental Delay
Gross Motor
Developmental Milestones
- 1. A new born baby is in a flexed position.
2. Child is able to lift head up to 45° when placed on their tummies between 15 days-2 months.
3. The child gets a complete head control by 3 months.
4. Child achieves good chin tuck by 3 months of age.
When to be concerned ?
- 1. The child cannot lift the head off the couch by 3 months.
- 2. Have stiff legs that move very little.
- 3. Child will be very floppy/loose when suspended by hips.
Fine Motor
Developmental Milestones
- 1. New born baby’s hands are fisted.
2. Child holds a placed rattle by 2 months.
3. Child can bring both hands together in the center by 2.5 to 3 months of age.
When to be concerned ?
- 1. No hand to mouth activity.
- 2. Child does not try to reach the objects.
- 3. Hands are not in midline and turned outward.
Speech Language
Developmental Milestones
- 1. Child recognizes mother’s voice.
- 2. Looks toward person talking to him.
- 3. Coos.
When to be concerned ?
- 1. Child is not keen to observe the speaker.
- 2. Child doesn’t respond to loud sounds.
- 3. Child seems to be dull and mute.
Social Emotional
Developmental Milestones
- 1. Makes eye contact.
- 2. Social smile is established by 3 months of age.
- 3. Recognizes primary caregiver by 3 months of age.
- 4. Seeks attention of caregiver.
When to be concerned ?
- 1. Does not make eye contact when spoken to.
- 2. Does not engage in social smiling by 3 months
Cognitive
Developmental Milestones
- 1. Memory developing
- 2. Distinguishes speech from another sounds.
When to be concerned ?
- 1. Does not notice hands by 2 months.
- 2. Does not follow objects by 3 months.
